I believe, what you're getting at the the invisibility cloak, and correct me if I'm wrong, but no where does it say, definitively, in the books that Dumbledore sent Harry the cloak. That was an assumption made and carried through the books so far as 'fact.' Until it's corroborated, or disproved, by Dumbledore himself, it is still just an assumption that he sent it.

Could Lupin have sent it instead?

I was wrong though, about Remus J. Lupin's middle name. I was hoping it would be James, lending weight to this theory. But an interview with JKR revealed that his middle name is John. *sigh*

But come now...what else have you found?

It's not possible that Lupin is really James or that he was in love with Lily. The book indicated how close of relationship they all had so don't you think that when James and Lily dated she became a part of the group and therefore became great friends with Lupin which could spawn platonic feelings of love!
